Once they've achieved that, they buy or hire a cab and earn a very good income - much of it in cash. They have nothing to gain by working for Uber, and everything to lose from its competition.Lexihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14404818053292364819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6250078125607062288.post-22775748704783633182014-07-14T17:01:47.240+01:002014-07-14T17:01:47.240+01:00I know it's been a month since this was posted...I know it's been a month since this was posted, but I found this article on Uber in Orlando, Florida, which I thought was interesting.

Turns out, the taxi drivers are in favor of Uber - it's the taxi cab owners who are against it. The taxi cab drivers, who parallel authors, lease cars from the cab companies and often, after paying the day's lease rate, don't actually make any money. Sound familiar? The taxi drivers are "trapped in a cycle of poverty."

Anyway, here's the link:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/os-uber-taxi-changes-orlando-20140712,0,1859150.storyJudithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00515313368190919011noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6250078125607062288.post-40988929068851951712014-06-12T09:38:49.953+01:002014-06-12T09:38:49.953+01:00Thanks, Jan!

Apparently Uber has had huge numbers of new customers sign up this week. Although all of those were also high tech in their day!

People will always scream that it's unfair when it's their own skills that are becoming obsolete, rather than learning a new skill set that is useful with the new technology.

And that's just what's happening with publishing now.fairyhedgehoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14141089706966852951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6250078125607062288.post-75601268184459409612014-06-12T05:59:26.080+01:002014-06-12T05:59:26.080+01:00Great post Lexi and a really good comparison.
