Clicking Publish on Ice Diaries

I have now clicked Publish, and ICE DIARIES is available to buy (or indeed ignore, according to taste) on Amazon UK and US.

It's an extraordinary moment for any self-publisher. Traditional publishing is very different; your book won't be on sale until about two years after you write THE END. By that time you've probably written another couple of books and have almost forgotten the one you now have to promote.

For indies like me, it's all much more immediate, and the buck doesn't just stop here, it's in permanent residence. I really hope readers are going to enjoy the story of Tori and her life in a post-apocalyptic London. They'll let me know.

Here's a virtual toast to Ice Diaries - and readers, without whom writers would be nowhere.

N.B. I've loaded pictures relevant to the story here on my website.

  3. I've bought it and I can't wait to read it.

I've finally asked for a Kindle for Christmas so I don't have to keep reading books on my laptop! I just buy too many ebooks these days.

  4. Thanks! Which Kindle are you hoping for, FH? There's more choice than last year - my daughter had trouble choosing, and that was before the Fire and Paperwhite came out.

  5. I don't even know what's available. I think battery life is my main concern; I'm going to have to have a little look around and see what's on offer these days.

  10. Congrats!!! I've added it to my wishlist, and will be buying it soon. I can't get enough of post-apoc fiction! :) Yours seems to be superbly written, from the excerpt on your site.

  11. Big yay to you too, Kitty!

Adriana, thanks for checking out the sample. (Amazon still isn't admitting there's a problem with Look Inside on the book's UK page.) I devoured all the John Wyndhams as a child, and they have stayed with me.

  12. I should never have started reading this during Nanowrimo. I need to read badly written books to encourage me to go on writing!

I just love your writing style, Lexi. I've only just started the book but I'm loving it.

  13. When I first started writing I discovered a site on the internet full of books that were hilariously and mind-bogglingly inept. I went there when feeling discouraged with my efforts.

I fear this means I am not an entirely nice person.

  14. I know I'm not a nice person! (You couldn't email me the link, could you?) ;)

  15. Well done, Lexi. I'm looking forward to reading it by a log fire with crumpets.

    Love the cover.

  16. FH, all fairies are nice, unless they are Wicked Fairies. It's in the job description.

Anna, just don't drip butter in the Kindle...

  17. I finished the book. I loved it. Wow! I loved the way it ended too - very satisfying. The ending can make or break a book for me!

I nearly stopped reading at one point in the middle when the suspense almost got too much for me! (That's a compliment, really it is.)

I do love your characters and your sense of place. I looked up the Strata building on google and it was fun to see the images while reading the story.

    Great book, Lexi!

  18. Ah, thanks, FH - I take it as a great compliment to have wooed you away from NaNoWriMo.

I got very into Strata, and feel as if I've lived there. I wouldn't want to in real life, though - no balconies or proper opening windows.

Just bought your book is one of my favourite sentences :o)

  21. Congrats on yet another Reader Pleasing creation. Ladies and gentlemen, we are witness to the beginning of what is destined to be a heck of a career. I was fortunate to read a Just Prior to Ready for Publication version and the thing that struck me above all else with Ice Diaries is how successfully Lexi has created a sense of place and atmosphere. It was easy to accept and get lost in the reality of the world within the pages. That is quite a feat.

  22. And thanks for your advice, Alan :o)

  23. Alan, I agree about a sense of place and atmosphere. I looked up from reading and was surprised that outside the windows was a mild autumn day and not the whiteness that I was expecting!

  24. Woof, woof, wag, wag, several licks and a lot of jumping about, Lexi. Well done! My boring mum just says 'Congratulations'. She's got very little imagination.

  25. Cassie, your mum is a writer so this cannot possibly be true :o)

Woof to you too! (No licks or tail wags, though.)
