More thoughts on Kindle Edition Normalized Page Count
I really approve of KENPC (though goodness me, did they put any thought at all into that clunky acronym?) There is, however a downside.
Any less than best-selling author can follow a reader's progress through his book.
I was gratified when an anonymous reader powered through Replica in a day. But what about the reader who reached page 338 of Ice Diaries then apparently wandered off? I do hope he/she is all right, and didn't walk under a bus while engrossed in Tori's struggle to survive. Worst of all, though, is the person who read three pages of Remix four days ago and no more since.
There is only one solution to this. I need to sell as many books as Hugh Howey, then the daily pages read figure will be so stratospheric that I won't be able to discern individual readers who fail to finish my novels.
Right. I'm off to work on this.
Someone read 541 pages of my 542 page book - still trying to work out which page they skipped and why! Daphne (nonplussed)
ReplyDeleteClearly we are all going to waste a lot of time on this :o)
DeleteEvery time I check my blue line I think about Rowan Atkinson in the sit-com The Thin Blue Line! Remember it?
ReplyDeleteNo, I managed to miss that entirely. I like Rowan Atkinson best in Blackadder 2, where he has a particularly nice beard.
DeleteThere's probably a box set!
ReplyDeleteRead four pages, Lexi? Imagine how I feel - I have a reader who read only one. It has me worried, what did I say wrong?
ReplyDeleteWe all know how provocative and controversial your novels are, Anna, even on page one :o)
DeleteHa ha. So good to start the day with a laugh. Page one is always gently setting the scene, Page two is pow, zap and revolution.
ReplyDeleteI know someone who always reads the last page first ..... reckons if it's a mystery there's no need to read the rest! ... he likes thrillers rather than mysteries LOL
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried kindle unlimited but if I did I would use kindle for PC and read most of it off-line. Does Amazon really monitor my reading to that degree? Not sure I like the idea of Auntie watching my reading like that .... especially the juicy bits that I may re-read !!!
Q, Amazon Knows Everything.
DeleteBut probably doesn't care, considering some of the weird titles they sell, such as Taken by the T-Rex, Ravished by the Triceratops or Pounded by a Plesiosaurus.
(Your intrepid reporter went incognito to list those.)
I am a new author and someone read 17 pages this weekend. Should I be concerned? I just release my book on July 27.
ReplyDeleteEbony, I think you shouldn't read too much into it at this stage :o)
DeleteWelcome to the obsessive world of the indie author!
Thank you! It's an interesting world! Lol
